1726, Map of Northern Nueva España, with part of New Mexico

The map below of the northern provinces of Nueva España (New Spain) was created in 1726 by Francisco Alvarez Barriero, in connection with a major military inspection led by Brigadier General Pedro de Rivera y Villalón.  The map reflects indigenous nations, indigenous pueblos, and some pueblos and presidios inhabited by the Spanish.  Shown on the map are the provinces of Nueva Galicia, Nuevo León, Sonora, and parts of Nuevo Mexico.  For Nuevo Mexico (New Mexico), the pueblos of Paso, Senecú, Ysleta, Socorro and San Lorenzo are shown.  (Click on map to enlarge.)
