Historian Sonja Sonnenburg recently launched the Doña Ana Sphere Project. It is a comprehensive research project on the history of Doña Ana Village in New Mexico. The first stage of the project will address the settlement of the village and the strategies of villagers during the occupation of their village by the United States military during the U.S.-Mexican War.
“The people who settled in this region left us a rich legacy. Under extreme conditions, they managed to create and re-create villages for their families and others. It was a very complicated time, and they fashioned a complicated peace. Their experiences, strategies and tactics are still relevant today.”
